Shopify Plus agency UK

Shopify Plus is worth it when you need checkout customisation, B2B or wholesale beyond what every plan now includes, multiple stores, or API limits that standard Shopify will not give you — commonly once turnover is approaching £800k–£1m a year, sometimes earlier if checkout logic is the constraint. On The Road implements Plus, including migrations straight onto Plus. Upgrading an existing Shopify store to Plus starts from £10k. Migrations onto Plus and other complex builds are quoted at £15k–£50k+.

Shopify Plus is built for scale — but only if it is configured and extended properly. We help ambitious brands get the full value from Plus.

Shopify Plus unlocks checkout customisation, higher API limits, wholesale channels, expansion stores and advanced automation. We help you decide whether Plus is the right investment, then implement it properly — from launch through to ongoing optimisation.

Our Plus work includes checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions, custom B2B portals, multi-currency and multi-language setups, high-volume catalogue architecture and integration with ERP, WMS and middleware systems. RVinyl, Anchor Crafts, Contamac and GES all run on Shopify Plus with our support.

We are an official Shopify Partner with deep Plus experience. Whether you are upgrading from standard Shopify or migrating from another platform directly to Plus, we scope honestly and deliver without over-engineering.

When Plus is the right platform

Plus is a commercial decision before it is a technical one. The licence is a serious annual cost. It pays that back when you are blocked: checkout that must enforce pricing, shipping or fraud rules the standard checkout cannot; a wholesale channel with company accounts and payment terms; expansion stores for regions or brands; or a catalogue and order volume that is exhausting API limits and storefront performance.

It does not pay that back just because a competitor is on Plus, or because a replatform feels like a good moment to buy the top tier. If the honest scope is a custom theme and a clean migration, we will recommend standard Shopify and say what would trigger a Plus conversation later. Several of our clients — RVinyl, Anchor Crafts, Contamac and GES — do run on Plus, because the operational need was already there.

What we implement

Checkout is where Plus still earns its fee. We use Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions for pricing, validation, delivery rules and the bits of the checkout brands used to hack with Scripts. We set up B2B company locations, catalogues and payment terms where wholesale is a real channel rather than a PDF price list.

International work covers expansion stores, markets, duties and the content model so you are not copying a theme by hand for every country. High-volume catalogues need collection architecture and search that still make sense at hundreds of thousands of SKUs — the RVinyl migration is the reference, not a slide. ERP, WMS and middleware sit beside the store: orders out, stock and fulfilment back, with failures that are visible rather than silent.

Upgrading an existing Shopify store to Plus is a different project from migrating Magento or WooCommerce directly onto Plus. Both are in scope. The first is mostly checkout, B2B and the operational setup. The second is a full migration that happens to land on Plus, with redirects and data moves included.

How we scope it

Discovery separates “must work on day one” from “phase two”. Checkout rules, the system of record for stock, and who can edit prices are day-one questions. A second brand store or a new market can wait if it is not how you take orders next month. We would rather launch a smaller Plus store that trades than a diagram of every future region.

You will get a fixed quote after that conversation, a staging store, and a launch runbook. Support after go-live is available on a retainer from £2,500 a month if you want the same team watching the store.

Plus work also needs an owner on your side for checkout rules and B2B prices. Those are commercial decisions. We write them into the scope, build them on a staging checkout, and you place test orders before a customer does. A discount matrix guessed by a developer is how Plus projects go wrong.

Timeline and cost

A Plus upgrade on an existing Shopify store is often shorter than a replatform. A migration directly onto Plus follows the migration timeline: 4–8 weeks for a typical catalogue, 10–14 weeks when SKU volume, ERP or checkout logic is heavy. The quote states which one you are buying.

Upgrading an existing Shopify store to Plus starts from £10k. Migrations onto Plus and other complex builds are quoted at £15k–£50k+, plus your Shopify Plus licence, which you pay Shopify directly. We do not mark up the platform fee. B2B, checkout extensions and ERP work are what move a quote up the range.

FAQ

Common questions.

When should I upgrade to Shopify Plus?

Plus makes sense when you need checkout customisation, B2B wholesale, multi-store management, higher API throughput, or you are doing roughly £800k–£1M+ annually. We help you assess whether the investment is justified for your situation.

Can you migrate directly to Shopify Plus?

Yes. We regularly migrate stores from Magento, WooCommerce and legacy platforms directly to Shopify Plus — including complex catalogues and custom checkout requirements.

Do you build custom checkout experiences on Plus?

Yes. We use Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions for business-specific pricing, shipping rules, upsells and validation. Shopify Scripts stopped executing on 30 June 2026, so we rebuild that logic in Functions rather than shipping new Scripts.
