Shopify migration agency UK
A move to Shopify with On The Road usually takes 4–8 weeks for a typical UK catalogue, or 10–14 weeks when the store has hundreds of thousands of SKUs, an ERP, or a custom checkout. Migration and complex builds are quoted between £15k and £50k+, fixed after discovery, with 301 redirects planned before anything goes live.
Moving platforms is one of the highest-stakes decisions in e-commerce. We migrate stores to Shopify and Shopify Plus with your data, SEO rankings and trading continuity protected throughout.
Whether you are on Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Cart.com or a legacy bespoke system, we plan every migration around business risk — not just technical tasks. That means auditing integrations, mapping URL structures, staging environments and launch runbooks before a single product moves.
Our migration work includes product and variant imports (including complex option sets), customer and order history, redirects, metadata, collections, discount logic and third-party app replacements. For high-volume catalogues — like RVinyl's million-SKU move from Cart.com — we build custom import pipelines and validate at scale.
We have delivered migrations for automotive parts retailers, trade wholesalers, fashion brands and B2B merchants across the UK and internationally. Every project includes post-launch monitoring and a rollback plan so you are never left exposed on go-live day.
What actually moves across
The catalogue is only the start. Products, variants, option sets, collections, customers, order history, gift cards, reviews where the source platform allows an export, blog posts, pages and metafields all need a destination. Apps do not migrate themselves. Subscriptions, loyalty points, advanced search and B2B price lists each need a replacement — a Shopify app, a custom integration, or a decision to drop the feature.
We inventory every integration before we quote. Payment gateways, tax, shipping rules, ERP or inventory sync, email and SMS, and any middleware that sits between the store and the warehouse. If a feed breaks on launch morning, the store looks migrated and the business does not. That list is the migration, not a nice-to-have appendix.
Large catalogues need a pipeline, not a CSV uploaded by hand. RVinyl’s move from Cart.com covered more than a million SKUs onto Shopify Plus. That meant custom import jobs, validation counts, and a staging store the team could click through before DNS changed. The same approach scales down: a 2,000-SKU WooCommerce shop still gets a counted import and a diff, just a smaller one.
How rankings survive the move
Google does not care that you changed platforms. It cares that the URLs people already rank for still resolve. We export the indexed URL list, map each one to the new Shopify path, and ship 301 redirects with the launch — not the week after, when the crawl has already recorded a pile of 404s. Titles, meta descriptions and heading content move with the products and collections they belong to.
Shopify has its own duplicate-content habits: collection filtering, tag URLs, and paginated views. We set canonicals, decide which filtered views should exist, and submit the new sitemap once redirects are in place. Search Console is part of the launch checklist, not a follow-up task for whoever remembers.
If you are leaving Magento or Adobe Commerce, the usual surprises are layered: configurable products that do not match Shopify’s variant model, custom product fitment (Torque GT is the example we use with automotive catalogues), and a checkout that has been patched for years. WooCommerce stores more often trip on subscriptions, memberships and a theme that has business logic buried in PHP. We would rather find those in week one than on the cutover call.
Who this is for
This is the right engagement if trading continuity matters more than a redesign for its own sake. Brands on Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Cart.com or a bespoke stack, with a catalogue and a set of URLs they cannot afford to throw away. It is also the right conversation if you are unsure whether to rebuild the theme at the same time — sometimes the migration should land on a clean theme, sometimes the safer launch is a faithful move and a redesign in phase two.
We are based in Leamington Spa and work with merchants across the West Midlands, Manchester, London and further afield. You do not need to be local for the project. You do need a stakeholder who can answer product and operations questions while the staging store is being checked.
Timeline and cost
Most migrations take 4–8 weeks. Catalogues in the hundreds of thousands of SKUs, or checkouts with bespoke logic, typically take 10–14 weeks. Discovery produces the timeline; we do not start the import until the URL map and the integration list are agreed.
Migration and complex builds sit in the £15k–£50k+ range on our pricing page, quoted as a fixed price after discovery. A smaller WooCommerce move with a straightforward catalogue lands at the lower end. Plus migrations, ERP and high-volume imports land higher. Upgrading an existing Shopify store to Plus starts from £10k. Ongoing support after launch starts from £2,500 a month if you want us to stay on.

Common questions.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
Most migrations take 4–8 weeks depending on catalogue size, custom functionality and integrations. Complex projects with hundreds of thousands of SKUs or bespoke checkout logic can take 10–14 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline after the discovery phase.
Will we lose SEO rankings when we migrate?
Not if it is done properly. We map every indexed URL, implement 301 redirects, preserve metadata and submit updated sitemaps. SEO preservation is built into our migration process from day one.
Can you migrate from Magento or WooCommerce?
Yes — both are platforms we migrate regularly. We have moved Magento stores with complex product fitment data and WooCommerce stores with subscription and B2B requirements to Shopify.
